Get rid of the various gels, serums, potions, and other products that take up so much space in your bathroom cabinet.

For a healthier life, one expert says today’s best skincare routines are pretty simple and straightforward.

Dr. Fayne Frey revealed her skincare secrets to Fox News Digital. Frey is a dermatologist in West Nyack, NY who has been practicing for over 30 years.

The secret lies in good sun protection.

Frey shared that sunscreen is a necessary product to maintain a healthy, timeless complexion.

“The single product [that] everybody should be using 365 days a year is sunscreen,” she stated. “It is by far the most effective ‘anti-aging’ protective product on the market that promotes not only skin health but skin appearance.”

No matter the season, even the cold winters, Frey pointed out that sunscreen should be used.

Sunscreen is Effective

Despite several beauty products containing sunscreen like SPF foundations and moisturizers, Frey said most women don’t use the product enough for adequate protection.

“I always suggest wearing sunscreen – an SPF broad-spectrum sunscreen. And then apply your makeup over it,” she stated. “And put it on liberally.”

As per Frey, as we age, sun exposure can cause pigment spots and slight wrinkles. That’s why she recommends sunscreen as a preventative product for people of all ages.

The dermatologist elaborated that the vast majority of people don’t need to follow a multi-step skin care routine. It is not that necessary.

Instead, the most effective skincare rule isn’t in the bottles, it’s in the lifestyle choices people make every day.

“Healthy skin mimics a healthy lifestyle,” she stated.

“So, getting up in the morning and maybe exercising, getting a good night’s sleep, [eating] a nutritious diet. All of these things are wise to do.

“The best things in life don’t come in a bottle or a syringe or a tube or a jar.”

Frey shared that she’s met with “thousands” of women who approach her feeling insecure about “minuscule” flaws. Those things often highlighted by the current media machines.

“Marketing is powerful,” she stated. “And our cultural bias is a definition of beauty that is unattainable and unreachable for many people.”

With regards to misconceptions in skin care, Frey urged the mass to look through the marketing labels. For example, she noted products that claim they’re anti-aging.

“The truth is, science hasn’t found a single ingredient to reverse the aging process,” she stated. “It is inevitable, and it is irreversible.”

The Skincare Hoax’s author confessed that she doesn’t advise applying cleanser for normal face washing. This is based on research that found half of 500 women used only water and retained healthy skin.

“I don’t know anybody who doesn’t use cleanser and has sick skin because of it,” she stated.

For more personal skincare, Frey advises seeking dermatologists’ help for those with inflammatory skin, acne, or other conditions.

“Petroleum jelly is the most versatile skincare product on the market,” she stated.

“It’s great for really dry areas, like elbows and knees, runaway eyebrows, chafing on the nose when you have a cold, chapped lips. I can’t imagine life without it.”
