Jon Batiste has left CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert following seven seasons of serving as the show’s bandleader.
Additionally, Louis Cato has been given the position that Batiste has departed from – he now permanently fills in the job of interim bandleader.
“We’ve been so lucky to have a front row seat to Jon’s incredible talent for the past seven years,” said Stephen Colbert in an episode. “And will we miss him here? ‘Yeah!’ But we’re happy for you, Jon, and I can’t wait to have you back on as guest with your next hit record.”
Earlier this year, Batiste bagged the Album of the Year at the 2022 Grammy Awards for his album, We Are.
Among his competitors are several prominent musicians in the industry, including Kanye West, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, Doja Cat, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, H.E.R., and Justin Beiber.
He was also the most-nominated musician during the Grammys this year.
“It has been one of the great honors of my life to work on this show alongside some of the most talented musicians and creatives I know,” stated Cato.
“Watching and learning from both Jon and Stephen for these past seven years, I’m genuinely excited to continue the tradition of excellence they’ve established.”
Before the departure of Batiste, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert held musical residencies from St. Vincent, James Taylor, and Joe Walsh. Each artist played with Stay Human, the show’s house band.

Jon Batiste: Musician and Singer-Songwriter
Jon Batiste has many roles: singer, songwriter, musician, bandleader, and television personality.
He has teamed up with countless artists from different music genres, including Stevie Wonder, Prince, Willie Nelson, Lenny Kravitz, Ed Sheeran, Roy Hargrove, and Mavis Staples.
In addition, Batiste has dropped his recordings and performed in over 40 nations. Furthermore, he has toured with his band, Stay Human, constantly.
The 35-year-old artist has also music directed The Atlantic and served as creative director of the National Museum in Harlem.
In 2020, he contributed to the tracklist of Pixar’s Soul, for which he secured an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Grammy Award, and a BAFTA Film Award.
