Aquilino Peña is a founding partner of Kibo Ventures and president of ASCRI (Spanish Association of Capital, Growth and Investment that brings together Venture Capital & Private Equity entities in Spain) for the period 2020-2022.
Kibo Ventures is a venture capital fund that manages assets amounting to €115 million and has invested in more than fifty high-growth companies, such as Flywire, Carto, Job&Talent, Devo, Defined Crowd or Paack, among others.
The firm has a marked international character, with companies based in Spain, the USA, the United Kingdom, Canada, Portugal and Germany and has co-invested with more than 35 top-tier international funds.
Entrepreneur, operator and investor
Peña has been linked to the interactive sector since 1995 and from multiple angles: entrepreneur, operator and investor. As an entrepreneur, he has co-founded Submarino.com, a pioneer company in electronic commerce in Spain and Latin America, with IPO in 2004 in Brazil.
As an operator, he has managed more than fifty portals, including Orange.es, wanadoo.es, Starmedia.com, el Rincón del vago, Autocity, Telecinco.com and the portals of the Hachette group. Orange’s network of portals became the second group in terms of audience in Spanish with forty million monthly users and tenth worldwide.
As an investor, Peña has been an angel investor in more than 15 companies such as Volotea, Acierto, Bodeboca or the ISDI business school, among others.
He is also a member of the Executive Committee of @adigital. He has also been president of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), member of the Board of the Spanish Association of Electronic Commerce and of the Council of the Spanish Association of Advertisers (AEA) and executive director of the European Internet Advertising Association (EIAA), among other relevant forums.
Prior to Kibo Ventures, he was CEO of Mediaedge: cia (the largest WPP media agency in Spain) for Spain and Portugal. Previously, he has been General Manager of Orange’s interactive business, Director of Marketing and Customer Service at EresMas / Wanadoo, founder and CEO of submarine.com in Spain, and consultant for The Boston Consulting Group in Madrid and Sao Paulo.
